The Founder and Principal Author
Professor Valery Feigin is a neurologist and internationally renowned expert in
stroke who has authored over 200 publications, including 5 handbooks of stroke
translated into several languages. One of his most recent books ("When Lightning
Strikes - An Illustrated Guide to Stroke Prevention and Recovery" HarperCollins
Publishers) was published in New Zealand in 2004 and has been recently endorsed
by the World Stroke Federation and is currently being translated into 5 languages. This
book served as a basis for the development of the
DVD-based role model (observational
learning) educational product of our company consisting of the set of three
DVDs.
He is currently editing one more handbook in neurology
to be published in the USA in 2008.
Valery is the Editor-in-Chief of Neuroepidemiology and a member of editorial boards of five medical journals and a peer reviewer for a number of journals, including Lancet, Lancet Neurology, Stroke, American Journal of Epidemiology, European Journal of Neurology, Age and Aging etc. Dr Feigin is also a member of numerous scientific societies and holds a number of prestigious honorary appointments and awards, including the Bruce Schoenberg International Award of the American Academy of Neurology. In New Zealand, he played an instrumental role in establishing the NZ-first Acute Stroke Unit in the Middlemore Hospital and designing and running the Auckland Regional Community Stroke (ARCOS) study, the world-largest population-based stroke incidence study.

Acknowledgements
These DVDs have been developed by leading health professionals with expertise in stroke prevention, treatment and recovery. The DVDs have been endorsed by the World Federation for NeuroRehabilitation.
We wish to thank the Freemasons of New Zealand and the health professionals for their support in the production of the DVD. We are especially grateful to the stroke survivors and their family caregivers who appear on these DVDs for sharing what they have experienced to help other stroke survivors and their loved ones.
These DVDs are founded on the book "When Lightning Strikes, An Illustrated Guide to Stroke Prevention and Recovery" by Dr Valery Feigin (HarperCollins Publishers Auckland, NZ 2004) which has been endorsed by the World Stroke Federation, National Stroke Foundation of Australia and the Stroke Foundation of New Zealand. Professor Valery Feigin was also the leading author and principal editor of the DVDs.
