"Dear Valery and Company, finally after moving around family, friends, neighbours, Aged Care staff and a retired doctor the 3 DVDs have reached us with an overwhelming feeling of a job well done by everyone. The response was amazingly the same from all: a clean, clear learning tool for people. Different cultures, wide age groups make the stroke DVDs an informative and positive advantage in dealing with changes in their lives. Many passed on the idea that the DVDs would be very useful in rest homes where sometimes staff members are not always trained in stroke care."

"I George Tavita have found the stroke DVD very rewarding, as one of the stroke victims giving info on how I was hit with the stroke, it was also good to see how others got their stroke, also how to overcome it, also to try and learn a normal life again. I myself hope that my info in getting back to normal has helped other stroke victims".

"They are very helpful in understanding different types and causes of stroke. Also listening to different sufferers of stroke and their caregivers point of views. I recommend it that all health professionals keep a copy to show in their waiting rooms."

“I think the DVDs would be invaluable for a family who suddenly find themselves with a family member struck with such a calamity. The DVDs are comprehensive, very clear and would be extremely helpful to someone who does not quite know what or where to go next. I would certainly hope to have your DVDs at my side should I be unfortunate enough to have a stroke hit my family. There is a feeling of helplessness when one is first faced with a Stroke Survivor and your publications would give us the confidence to be able to help in the most practical ways during the very early stages of surviving a stroke.”
Anna Garrat, a volunteer with Stroke Survivors
“This is very worthwhile production that I am sure will help a lot of people involved with Stroke Community. The stages and progress of each of your people with stroke was clearly portrayed and the information provided must help the carers and the patients that view this. The support provided by this information will be most appreciated I'm sure. I enjoyed to see the honesty with which the carers told their stories.”

"Professor Feigin, who published When Lightening Strikes - an illustrated guide to stroke prevention and recovery, has supplemented his work with a set of educational DVDs for and by stroke survivors. Efforts such as Feigin's may help not just with instruction but also motivation."

Peer-reviews by medical journals
“Stroke Education Ltd (NZ) has produced a series of three DVDs with the aim of providing stroke patients and their families with up-to-date information about what a stroke is and how to prevent it, illustrating rehabilitation and training information that can be implemented in the home, and through shared insights and experiences of stroke survivors and their families giving much needed personal support... Practical advice and activities are demonstrated sensitively and thoroughly by presenters who explain each one in detail. Volunteer stroke survivors and their families help demonstrate techniques that comprehensively cover personal needs from preventing bedsores to incontinence management... By allowing caregivers time to review techniques in their own home at their own speed, this DVD is an excellent resource for patients and their families, the root menu allows review of individual activities, so that caregivers can quickly review and remind themselves of the correct way to help patients in and out of a bed or how to perform voice exercises... I will give the second DVD to patients who have suffered a hemplegia, dysphagia or dysarthria prior to arriving home to aid rehabilitation, the third to caregivers of most patients in the immediate period after a stroke and would strongly recommend them to practices wanting to improve their patient education resources.”

“The production is of high professional standards and well balanced and informative. The tone is overall warm and sympathetic. The strategy in the third volume of patients giving advice to other patients is particularly successful. Volume 1 and 3 should be of general interest to any patient with stroke, whereas volume 2 gives more focus on patients who have severe disabilities and are cared for at home. The DVDs should be well suited for use in any geographical area, also outside New Zealand where it was produced. The target audience is of course patients and caregivers whom here will find a rich source of information to be sampled in proportions. However, almost all parts are also well suited for education to different categories of professionals involved in stroke care at different levels. The production also serves well as a useful source of inspiration for those many of us who are actively involved in public education - this is a nice example of how it can be done when at best. Let this set be much used and make it widely available!”

“The DVDs are excellent. This DVD set provides invaluable knowledge about stroke in an accessible format. The information from both patients and health-care professionals on the medical aspects of stroke and what is available to aid recovery is important and these DVDs should be available to those who need them.”

Professional Testimonials
“The educational programs contained in these DVDs are the keys to improving quality of life post-stroke. It is like having a personal trainer and health professional available 24/7”

“This is a unique and outstanding video guide for stroke survivors and their families. I strongly recommend it.”

"These DVDs are excellent. I am not aware of any other comprehensive source of information. The DVDs are targeted to people who have had a stroke as well as their carers and family. However, the content is so thorough that the DVDs should also be of use to the health professional. The obvious advantage of the DVDs is that the information is readily accessible and different topics can be accessed with ease. I cannot think of any relevant question that may arise after a stroke that is not answered in this series. Having experience of the stroke is a major, life changing event. Access to good quality information is the key to understanding the condition but also to understanding what can be achieved for the best management of the various problems that may arise. The DVDs avoid unnecessary technicalities and the facts and opinions are expressed in clear, unambiguous language. The production of these DVDs is a remarkable achievement and will be of significant help to people who have had a stroke as well as their families and friends. I can highly recommend these DVDs and every stroke unit should have copies for distribution to their patients."
Professor Michael P Barnes MD FRCP

“I found the DVD very informative and it has a very strong focus on the impacts of stroke on the patients and its consequent effects on their family. It gives out two important messages: 1) the practical advices featured in the DVD will help people and 2) sharing of experiences of people from various ethnic backgrounds reminds all of us we are not alone, and help creates a sense of hope.”
